Antenna connection
I have a coax cable going directly to TV for DirectTV. I would like to add an antenna for local channels. Since there is only one coax input on back of TV, how can an antenna be added?

An antenna is a separate source from DIRECTV. It is plugged into your TV separately by buying an indoor or outdoor antenna (VHF or UHF depending on the frequency strength in your area and which channels are on which frequency).
I suggest you take a look on YouTube at Antenna Man's channel, it is a great resource for those who are starting to get an OTA antenna and need assistance purchasing one, setting it up, etc.

Thanks for your response, but it didn’t really solve my problem. Thanks for directing me to the AntennaMan videos, though.

Are you already using the coax output on your TV? Please elaborate.

There isn’t a coax output on the TV, only one input. There is not a receiver box either. DIRECTV is accessed be a single coax cable going from the wall to the TV input.

The DirecTV box should be plugged into HDMI, or if a pre-HD TV the A/V (red/white/yellow) ports. That way you can free up the antenna input for what it is built for.
However if your TV only has a coax/ant input, then it is ancient and should have been replaced decades ago.

Do you have your own DirecTV satellite dish or are you in a multi-dwelling (apartment, condo, etc.)? It would be unusual to get DirecTV directly from a wall coax outlet connected directly to your TV's ANT INPUT. But if that's the case, you can buy Antenna A/B switchers to share two different antenna feeds to your TV's ANT INPUT.

Yes, the tv is in a multi-dwelling unit. I will research the switcher. Thanks.
