Cancellation of NEWSMAX

There have been notices that DirecTV is threatening to remove NEWSMAX TV from the lineup on channel 349 as early as midnight on Tuesday 1/24/2023.  If indeed this will occur it represents a threat to censor conservative news from the cable service.

AT&T continues to own 70% of DirecTV, but added TPG Capital as its partner with a 30% stakeholder in 2021.

TPG, a Texas-based financial firm and hedge fund, is known for its liberal politics. FEC documents show that since 1993, 90% of its donations have gone to Democratic candidates and committees.

Newsmax is one of the most watched cable news channels in America; millions of people turn to Newsmax as a source of trusted information. Now more than ever, the American people need access to a free and fair press. I am sure that DirecTV will claim that removing Newsmax from their lineup of channels was purely a business decision, but that is hard to accept when liberal news channels like Vice Media continue to remain on the air. Vice is a ratings failure for DirecTV, yet they continue to profit from their relationship with DirecTV.

Censoring of conservative views is direct evidence of technocracy interfering with free speech in America.

If , indeed, the removal occurs, it will assuredly cause a migration of conservative viewers away from DirectTv AND AT&T, causing untold losses for those organizations.

Please let your voices be heard because America deserves to hear ALL points of view!

I have not been happy with Directv for some time, dropping Newsmax would be the last straw.

Not quite the situation. DirecTV and Newsmax are in negotiations. DirecTV is not threading to remove or cancel the channel. If an agreement is not reached by the deadline, then Newsmax has the right to pull the feed.

Now if the feed is pulled, that doesn't mean permanently. Negotiations can continue, and if/when a new agreement is reached then Newsmax would of course return the feed.

We just have to wait and see how this plays out.

And "Free Speech" does not mean TV providers are required to carry any given channel. The 1st Amendment does dictate what channels they may or may not have. They can negotiate to carry or not any channel they choose. As customers we have the right to go with whatever TV provider we prefer.

Correct, AT&T is not required to carry any channel, However, as a subscriber since DTV's launch many years ago, I also can take my business' elsewhere. Obviously AT&T feels they are too big to fail. They best think again. Limiting points of view based on management ideology is unacceptable no mater which viewpoint is affected.

Lets see if they have the will to rectify this situation

Limiting points of view based on management ideology is unacceptable no mater which viewpoint is affected.

As TV providers are entertainment, not requirement or right under Goverment (or any such Constitutional clause), they can do business with whatever channels they want.

However, unlike the previous situation they have been negotiating and have been in disagreement on cost. So this time it is different. The only way to rectify is for both sides to come to an agreement, but unknown when/if that will happen as negotiations have stalled out for the moment.

Except, this is the exact same fee other top news services demand from Direct TV, which DTV happily pays.  So it is not the fee, it is a viable excuse to cut the service.

Cancelled both AT&T and Direct TV after 17 years. Registered with the DoNotCall.gov, Do Not Mail Registery.

They better get it right.

If no one care that customers go, then its not a company worth dealing with, But then again, do you speak for DTV?
