Well if genie doesn't use the connected home adapter as mentioned earlier why would they send it to me ?

no one here knows being we are customers like you. All we can assume is an uneducated CSR who had no clue what the issue was and thus ordered a random piece.

Call your internet service provider for an onsite visit -for help connecting the device to the internet.. The should be able to help you get connected

Your internet service provider (ISP) did NOT send you the connected home adapter. That was sent by your TV provider DirecTV.
Are any of your other boxes connected to your home internet by any method? I ask as the "Genie" is serve as the connection for the entire setup and has issues if any other boxes try to connect through another path.
What are the model numbers of each box you have? (located behind the access card door on the front, label on the bottom, or if you go into Menu > Info and Test).
What exactly happens (symtpoms, error message, etc.) when you try to tell the box to connect to your internet?
Understood it is "greek" to you on a lot of this. For others to try and help we need more info. Otherwise you would need a tech on site doing this for you.
