DIRECTV dropping OANN?

I find it illuminating that the Left gets a message from Media Matters imploring them to request that OAN & Newsmax be dropped by AT&T, and they all run to the Forums to beg that an alternative News station be removed from programming.  I want CNN & MSNBC to stop reporting nothing but Democrat operative opinion, but I am not begging that they be removed, and I LOVE the cut and paste from Wikipedia (home of the Left) that quotes obvious Leftist tripe that OAN lies and said  bad things about the 2020 election.  Come ON, people!  Are you Leftists so scared of (Edited per community guidelines) opinion or reporting that you must call for their demise?  So much for the free speech-loving Left!  The old days of debate are gone.  Now, if you want to debate a Leftist, you must agree with them first so that they feel better about debating.  So, from now on, our only news is supposed to come from only Left-approved news stations?  How incredibly boring you all are!  I, for one, would like to hear all reporting, whether I agree with it or not.  But the scardicats of the world want to change our culture from one of creativity, ideas, and quality debate to a sycophantic, obsequious, 1984 nightmare of brain dead know-nothings.  You Leftists are pathetic .

This has nothing to do with Free Speech. No TV provider is required to carry and pay for OANN. It is the TV provider's choice. Regardless of what we customers like or not about it, remember it is their decision. Just like we have the choice on what TV provider we go with.

They use their money as they see fit. Just like we customers do. That is freedom of choice. These rights do not require them to decide the way we (any given customer) want, otherwise that would actually take away rights.

Everyone that has DirecTv AND other AT&T services should cancel all their services with AT&T if they proceed with this.

You know that this was approved by the "elite" execs at AT&T to make this decision. I called both DirecTv and AT&T and informed them the day OAN goes off is the day their service ends in my home.

I will be cancelling DirecTV and my AT&T cell services over this decision to censor a network because of political pressure.

The only way to combat Big Tech from controlling the media is to cancel / drop those who violate freedom of speech and thought.  America needs to fight back via power of the purse.

I cancelled my Direct TV as a result of them cancelling one of the few (Edited per community guidelines) news channels they carry; OANN.  Soon all we will be left with is the woke far left news mafia as there will be more cancellations to follow.  My new solution is to sign up individually with the content produces I wish to consume, not be controlled by a 3rd party who does nothing more than bundle information aligned to a specific ideology they want others to consume. 

News is no longer factual but is an opinion in many ways.  America needs to be able to hear all the opinions not just one side controlled by the far left woke news mafia who are trying to indoctrinate others by controlling the information people consume to formulate thoughts.    The bedrock of this country is “E pluribus unum”; out of many, one.  What has made this country successful is many divergent thoughts inevitably bring us to the best solution for our children's future than any single point of view.  Controlling thought by spreading one ideology through media will break all the principles people have given lives for and lead us to communism, not a democracy.

@Juniper I completely disagree with you regarding the free speech issue. How many other channels with low viewership are being cancelled? It is a fact that several left leaning individuals have reached out to corporations and convinced their leadership to removed channels and platforms that disagree with the (Edited per community guidelines) narrative and that corporation has complied. The best example I would provide would be Parlor. The left constantly promotes diversity - except when it comes to ideas. Having traveled the world where being able to speak your mind can put you in jail, I find this trend sad and dangerous. 

It sad that direct tV censors the word C..o…n..servative.  Note they removed a word which has no negative connotation from my post as well as others who used the word.  I think the censorship speaks volumes. 

• @Juniper, This has everything to do with free speech.  Several reliable sources have reported that DirectTV and ATT have decided not to renew the contract after several left leaning groups pressured them after revealing how much they were contributing to OANN.  The irony is the study the left groups cite does not reveal how much Direct TV contributes to CNN, ABC, NOR and other far left leaning networks who spread false information.

Directv is applying censorship in deciding to drop OANN from its channel lineup.  Allowing public discourse and diverse opinions is an American tradition and enshrined in the Bill of Rights.  Considering dropping Directv if they drop OANN.

The 1st Amendment (Free Speech) does not require any TV provider to carry OANN. Nor is there any regulation, rule, or other requirement they do so. They are not forced to use their money for something they have decided they do not want. Anyone who disagrees, show me what statute or such that requires that they keep it.

That said, I do respect those that want OANN to stay and are not happy about DirecTV's decision. I do prefer variety, though I have no vested interest in any specific news channel. I have noticed that the other big TV providers do not carry OANN as well, so only a few outreach options seem to have them in the first place. I am curious what those in this thread think about that. The situation does not lie just with DirecTV, but others seem to have been declining to carry OANN as well.

Sure if you feel strongly enough about it, go ahead and cancel Those saying everyone should cancel need to respect there are people who don't like OANN and those that don't care one way or another so will stay or leave as they like.

@Juniper… you highlighted the exact issue with free speech towards the end of your post.  The real issue revolves around Direct TV canceling free speech from OANN based on leverage from woke left leaning groups.  Note Con..serv..atives don’t seek to cancel others, the problem is being driven from the other side.  

Its a real shame DirectTV is participating is partisan politics and canceling the right based in the wishes of the left.  After OANN is canceled, there will not be many con..serv..ative networks left.  Its seems too coincidental that this is also happening right before the midterm campaigns.  This will backfire on a Direct TV and many others as people are smarter than the corporate big tech executives make them out to be.  

The public does not need your services when they can just download an app for the stations they want to watch and bypass you all together.  Just next month we will get a social network that Twitter and Facebook are unable to sensor.

I have been a customer of Directv for a long time and when I heard you will not renew OAN I will be canceling Directv as well.  I found it on Klowd TV for $99 per year.  Also, you can get a lot of different apps on your TV for free or very little cost.  Given Directv charges far too much I will go the way of Klowd and other apps.  Bye Bye Direct TV!
