DIRECTV dropping OANN?

How could you bow down to the WOK cancel culture demands to dropping OANN?  They do not lie!  The "big lie of the 2020 election" is absolutely true. There is mountains of evidence of the election steal. All the misinformation comes from liberals not conservatives!  My husband and I will be dropping Directv if you go thru this in April. I will convince all our friends and family to do likewise. This is an attack on freedom of speech and our country. Shame on you!!!!

@1tazman

In full agreement. That's why I'm speaking with my wallet. I've never asked for a news channel to be banned. I choose what I watch and try to stay informed. As I have stated several times before, we like DirecTV and will stay with it if they change their mind and keep OAN but the day OAN is dropped is the day we will drop DirecTV.

PS, I must have said something egregious in a previous post because I was blocked for a few days. It seems my "time out" is now over.

I'm back. Someone did to me what they did to you. I was blocked for a few days. It must have been the letter. Glad to be back in the conversation. I've been reading all your posts.

@Catskills_Dan Good to see you again.  Not sure why the Truth (Letter on Government letter head) gets one banned.  Maybe if they put the letter as the header in the thread, we would not have to repost to ensure everyone sees it.  My assumption is it hit a sore spot in the Dictator’s eyes.  I’m guessing like me, you got no reason or rational?

@chasf00 The posts are all relevant.  They illuminate why news channels of multiple view points should be supported on DirecTV.  E.G. canceling OAN, NewsMax, and FoxNews in attempt indoctrinate people with one political ideology under CNN, MSNBC, etc is not the answer.  The approach does not support freedom and is not American.

We're here because DirecTV is dropping a news outlet that we personally trust. If you're of a different opinion, that's okay. It seems that many with a "different" opinion would rather that the rest of us be silenced. Why is that?

I understand that a lot of the folks here are venting their frustrations about OAN and am all for it. There have been some nasty statements said here that some should have been blocked but weren't. The powers that be have a different pov . This thread has been going for months, while other threads get scrubbed  within hours of being posted by the powers that be. Good luck.

The nasty should be left at the door.

The frustration arises though, when members of Congress of the United States demand that Fox News, Newsmax and OANN be dropped from all the major television companies in the U.S. and as Abiispirit mentioned at the top of this thread, DirecTV has bowed down to the woke cancel culture and is dropping one of our favorite news sources. Since OAN is on the chopping block is Newsmax next? This is the way of cancel culture. This is not the freedom of speech that we have been able to enjoy as Americans. Now, it seems, we have big government telling us what news we can watch!

Most threads are of a technical issue so they last until they come to a resolution.

This one is different. It involves, in most of our opinion, freedom of speech. No, we can't tell a company like DirecTV what they must have on their platform but it seems that Congress is telling them what they can't have. So...as I have stated before...we are talking with our pocketbooks and this has been the consensus since before I joined this forum.

Thanks for listening.

My billing cycle starts over on Sunday.  I have a note to cancel my DirecTV tomorrow so I am not billed for another month.  I am still watching stuff off of my DVR and am "double-recording" network TV shows but just watching them off my DTV dvr.  I'll just delete them from my TiVo once I start using it.  I am finding that I am still keeping OAN on so much that I don't want to leave DTV until it's gone...weird, I know, as I have two sources on my Firestick so as to watch it.  I had to get an HDMI splitter so I can split my TiVo and Firestick on my upstairs TV and my Firestick with the DVD player on my downstairs TV (2 ports, 3 devices).  So I figured I'll just pay another month of DTV, even if I cancel in the middle of the billing period.  I just have too much other content to watch and not enough time to watch it (maybe 15-20 hours worth).  My DVR is down to 89% free now, including new content (it usually sits around 70-80%).

I did a search for other OAN threads and thought the others were being merged into this one.  I guess they gave up, as I must've found at least a half dozen out there, the "biggest" may be 4pp now.  I may check in now and again, as long as my ID keeps working...not sure if they cancel out forum access when you disconnect DTV service.  Time will tell.  I'll also be sure to report when I cancel and what is said or not, if anything.  @Juniper, I will be kind to the person on the phone, as I know it's not their fault.

you can get Roku ultra/stick combo with 2 remotes at Costco for $60

ultra on main tv, stick on 2nd tv, you can set both up on same Roku account and watch all from both tv's

- with subscription to KloudTV, I chose the $9 a month option you can get all OAN programming all the time, you don't need to 'record/keep' it is always available.

- add in what ever other streaming apps you want for little money a month.

I replaced all the programs I watch with adding Discovery+

SAVE $130 BUCKS A MONTH!!!!!

@SuzeP1245 yeah there is several threads and it looks like our friend / not so neutral DIRECTV volunteer (Juniper) is now focusing on them with remarks like

Your "loyalty" does not dictate what channels they must pay for and support

You are just another customer, no better than the rest of us. Perhaps wake up to that reality? In any case, good day.

I made sure to post the links to the Eshoo letter and OAN lawsuit on DIRECTV in each one I could find.  It will be interesting if my account gets blocked again like @Catskills_Dan soon.  At least Elmer has other Wabbit hunting friends :)

Keep up the good fight fellow patriots!!  While reviewing the other threads, I noticed a few people are starting threads asking DIRECTV to cancel OAN, Newsmax, FoxNews.  Their rational that those stations are anti-American is a hypocrisy; I guess they did not look in the mirror.  Indoctrination has done a lot of damage in this country.

Those wanting certain stations removed believe in state run television.

Just as a reminder, this is a political move on the part of members of Congress. That's why we're here so long and speaking so loud.

The following is a quote from a letter from two members of Congress:

"Are you planning to continue carrying Fox News, Newsmax, and OANN on U-verse,
DirecTV, and AT&T TV both now and beyond any contract renewal date? If so, why?"

Just a few observations I wish to share:

I have cut the DirecTV cord from my main house. (I do have 2 accounts which the other will end at the end of the month). I installed an OTA (over the air antenna) and I get allot more that I expected for my area. I get MEtv, H&I, Bounce, Circle, Grit (westerns) which are not on DTV, and more as well as NBC. CBS, ABC, CW and FOX.

I have my Tivo Edge OTA up and running. The DVR will do all the OTA channels and the Tivo apps. It also does the Guide and programming of my favorite programs.

Now I will say that many of the Network Apps are requiring some cable/satellite account to "sign in" to their service. This I find is a bit ridiculous. Even FOX is requiring some provider sign-in. none of the free streaming services nor firestick qualifies. So Fox news may be one of the losses. But I can get Newsmax free and the OANN for $4.99 a month. So many choices and even a wider set of "channels"

While I was writing this I get a call from......... wait for it................. DirecTV "winback" department. asking me why a long term customer was leaving. I went through my points of OANN and RFD being dropped and a few others I found out. The person did say "Oh another one because of this". The person was talking about how they could do some adjusting and bring down the cost of my remaining account (it ends 31 March) But nothing was going to happen to add OANN or the rest back. My daughter (who the other account I have, is disabled and out in "the sticks" no internet access) is the account they are trying to keep. I told I can put up an antenna and she would get 30 to 40 channels all FREE. Dont think DTV can beat that. It seems strange they now have a "win back department" trying to keep or recover the customers they are loosing. Hmmm are the numbers there?
