Yeah, but do you think any of those people who claimed dropping Newsmax was political and not just a business issue will admit they were wrong? I doubt it.

Lol, I admit it was a business decision, and I’m coming back because I’ve made a business decision. Newsmax rules!!! And so does DirecTV :)

Unless Sandblaster was in on the negotiations, then the official answer to that question may never be known.
An alternative viewpoint is the original deplatforming of NewsMax was political, and the backlash and negative PR for DIRECTV afterwards was too much for it to handle.
So the answer is it could have been both politically motivated to begin with and a business decision afterwards. AT&T is still a major player with DIRECTV, and AT&T was the recipient of a letter from Congressional Democrats to deplatform 3 conservative news channels.
Glad DIRECTV came to it's senses and brought back NewsMax.
