NewsMax
Dropping (deplatforming) Newsmax is not only a bad idea but stupid. I have been on the fence about leaving DirecTV and this stupid move is helping with that decision.

What do you have to accomplish with this type of post by calling everything stupid?

This is just a public forum of other customers.
It was indeed dropped, you can cancel by calling in (number in my greeting below) and saying ‘cancel’ to the robot. All leased equipment gets returned to a participating FedEx or UPS location with your account number. Be sure to keep the receipt given to you by the clerk so you can avoid the possibility of an equipment non return fee (ERF) as you now have proof of return.
Additionally, if you are somehow still locked into a contract, DIRECTV will charge you $20 for every month left. This is known as the early termination fee (ETF). These are restarted when you add/upgrade to new equipment or move services to another address. If you haven’t done this within the last 2 years, you should be good to cancel without the fee.

CobbTotem3, what would you call deplatforming the 4th most watched news network all because you can't remain neutral and allow for all viewpoints?

Up until now, Directv has not had to pay Newsmax any carriage fees. Newsmax now wants carriage fees, Directv is not willing to pay that. Directv has stated they would continue to carry Newsmax under the terms of the old agreement. So who exactly is being “stupid”, Directv for refusing to pay carriage fees for a channel that offers their programming free via streaming or Newsmax for demanding Directv now pay to carry them? In my book, Newsmax is the one being stupid.

I am dropping them too. IF this is not stupid and not censorship, why cancel two of the 3 Conservative stations on DTV within a year???

DirecTV canceled Newsmax and also just raised their monthly rate, so now I will be cancelling my DirecTV subscription. Others should do the same. You can still watch Newsmax on Sling or Fubo.

TV providers can have or not channels of their choosing. Nothing requires them to have or not any specific channel. As long as any channel they carry comes through as delivered (so no editing out certain programs or cutting bits out, etc.), then it is not censorship.
As for the timing, that is when their carriage agreements ended. But the two are different situations. With OAN, it was a hard no to continued carriage. So AT&T/DirecTV announced ahead of time the agreement would not be renewed, not even a chance for negotiations.
Newsmax they were negotiating with. Apparently they were provided free to DirecTV, but now wanted to be paid (makes sense). DirecTV did not agree to their proposed cost (unsure if just too high or were balking at any cost), so when the carriage agreement ended Newsmax pulled the feed (as is their right). Currently DirecTV is willing to talk if Newsmax wants to start up again, but will not proactively seek negotiations ("leaving the door open"). So unlike OAN, there is still a chance for Newsmax.
In addition, a new network (The First) has been added to fill this desired viewing.
