why does? running system test stop at 7% and not continue even after 1 1/2 hours

No idea. Need more info. What DirecTV product(s) do you have? What exactly are you trying to do?

Why are you running the test in the first place? Are you having an issue or running just because you felt like it?
If an actual problem then some details:
What model box?
Describe issue (symptoms, error message, etc.)
What have you done (beside system test) to resolve?
Are other TVs having the issue?
Anything happen/change before issue started?
