Why did DirecTV take Newsmax off?

I think this is a direct attack on FREE SPEECH in America, not a money issue!!!!!!

DirecTV pays these fees for the ClintonNewsNetwork (CNN), MSNBS (MSNBC), FoxNews, and other channels. Why are you throwing a fit when your #2 News Channel wants to get the same treatment? Negotiate and get NewsMax back on the air. I’m gonna wait 7 days, and then I’m canceling my 19 year DirecTV service. TIK TOK TIK TOK!

Its not a direct attack, but rather NewsMax offering carriage fees for programming that can be received for free online. DIRECTV doesn’t want to pay the fee or pass it onto the customer so the channel has been removed. No one here knows when it will return (if at all) since we are just customers on a FORUM.

Well Free Speech doesn't cover what an entertainment company (pay TV) must carry in terms of channels. And this particular channel has been in negotiations for a while. So there is still a chance for it to return, but waiting to see if they are just stalled or are completely parting ways.

Then why is DirecTV paying others with lesser ratings more money?

So NewsMax provides free streaming, yet DirecTV is supposed to pay???

DirecTV wasn't paying anything for NewsMax before, so why should they pay now? Folks can stream NewsMax for FREE.

I’m giving DirecTV 7 days, from 01/24/23, to put NewsMax back on the air. If they do not, then I’m canceling DirecTV, which I’ve had for 19+ years, and I’m moving 4 cellphones to T-Mobile. I’ve had my AT&T cellular account for more than 30 years.

If DirecTV can pay the fees in question, for CNN and MSNBS, then they can pay them for their #2 News channel. Otherwise it just proves DirecTV has gone WOKE and is censoring the content on their channel lineup.

To say the reason is due to NewsMax having a free streaming site is an absolute lie. The only reason for At&T/Direct removing NewsMax is political. They have not cancelled CNN, MSNBC or other left wing news channels, check your app store and you will find these are also free to watch.

I signed up for Direct Stream just over a month ago only after I researched to find they had NewsMax as a new channel. If you take away my news channel, then reduce what I am paying a month or BRING BACK NEWSMAX!!!

Agreed....many stations have free options....why not drop everything to make cheaper than by directv logic. I will be switching to dish. Dropping Oann was first issue. Somehow no liberal station is being dropped. They could easily drop bet for being racist.

@cherz

I expect my TV provider to continue to provide the channels that they've been providing me for years.....

Then you have a misplaced expectation. Channels come and go and can change at any time. There is no guarantee of any channel always being availble with any provider.

Do aces get paid?

No as we are not employees but other customers. We don't always agree with AT&T and DirecTV, and have made posts to that effect.

My perception of the situation is Newsmax wants to add cost that wasn't there before (understandable for any channel owner), but DirecTV does not want to pay it from their financial standpoint. As they had been negotiating a new carriage agreement, that says to me it is in no way policitcal and just a normal carriage dispute. However, some fans of the channel will not accept any other possibility then they are being attacked by the two sides not comming to an agreement. That extreme reaction says to me people are too dependent on specific programming to tell them how to live their life. I prefer not to let TV (in its entirety, never mind any specific channel) direct my livelyhood.

Both AT&T/DirecTV and Newsmax are operating within their rights. Perhaps negotiations will continue and result in the channel comming back, perhaps not. But they are working within the rules, as much as some of the 'masses' do not like it. We are not entitled to any of these channels. Not comming to a new carriage agreement, regardless of negotiating or not, is not censorship. Now if a TV provider would cut or broadcast over specific programming on the channel, then that interference would be censorshp. But not doing business with them, or disagreeing with the new request, is not.
