accessing directv via the fire stick
We are using a fire stick to access channels and programs on a TV but when I try to log into Directv, I get Directv Stream and it doesn't recognize my user id and password. What am I doing wrong?

There is no Directv app for a firestick or any other streaming device. The Directv app is only for phones and tablets. Directv Stream is a totally different service. The only way to watch Directv programming on a firestick is to use your Directv credentials on the various network apps.

You are looking for something that doesn't exist.
DirecTV is built around satellite service. You pay for each authorized TV, authenticated by a box on each one. As such there is no streaming to TV app for the service.
The DirecTV app is only for on a smart phone or tablet. It doesn't allow casting to TV as for viewing only on the mobile device itself.
You want streaming to TV then you get DIRECTV STREAM, Netflix, Hulu, or some other streaming provider.
