ATT SOLD info to high risk scammers
My 90 year old mother in law had tech issues with her TV and landline phones after a storm. I called ATT to trouble shoot from my cell phone. today I received a call asking for my mother in law on my phone. ATT is the ONLY company who would associate my number with my mother in laws name,.
the number was researched and came back as a HIGH RISK SCAM.
ATT is the only company who would have sold this information.
NOT HAPPY WITH ATT and will most likely cancel my service with you as well.
stop selling info for purposes of gaining more money. please!

It may seem obvious that only ATT could have compromised the number but ATT does not sell your number and even if they did, they sure wouldn’t sell your number as your mother-in-law’s number. I’m sure there are other ways scammers could associate your MIL’s name with your number and maybe it was an unscrupulous phone agent but however it happened, it wasn’t ATT selling your info.

Scammers have all sorts of way to get this information. It's highly unlikely that it came directly from AT&T.

I suspect that when you called from your phone to troubleshoot your MIL's account, the agent entered your phone number on the account. You were probably asked for the number.you could be reached at if you were disconnected. The callback you received my have been a survey to see how the previous agent did on the call. Don't know why it would show up as a scammer number.

Someone has gotten their hands on AT&T DIRECTV subscriber information and is using to phish for account credentials. I got a text and an email saying I had missed a payment and needed to pay immediately. The payment link took me to a masked site where I was asked to log into my account. I work in the digital marketing world and happen to work on AT&T digital communications, so it was obvious to me that the email and website were bogus. But, most people wouldn't spot them as phonies. The clencher is I have multiple email addresses and the scammer happened to use the precise one I have on my DIRECTV account. It's a different email than the one on my AT&T account. Hmmm......

@Vulcan808 not really most phishing texts or calls are sent to random computer generated numbers, they get an area code and prefix and start at 0000-9999 i have 5 phones on my account and we got that same text in sequence on all our phones within a 5 minute period.
