Chat or email for account support

How can I get chat or (preferred) email support for an account issue? On the customer service page there is nothing but phone numbers and a chat button that doesn't do anything.

There’s no such thing as email support. Chat support itself is very poor since agents there are usually uneducated, pass on wrong information, or never actually resolve your request. Ever since the launch of DIRECTV, the preferred way to resolve issues is by calling (number in my greeting below).

Well, that's annoying. Duplex electronic voice communication is IXXth-Century technology, and has become less and less useful and efficient during the late XXth and now in the XXIst. It's typically a huge waste of time.

Is there a link to a chat function that actually works? (As in: actually launches a chat session, not necessarily that it results in problem solving.) I might try that as a first attempt.

Failing that, I guess I'll have to call.

(My basic problem: my DirecTV account is not linked to my wireless and internet ATT accounts, I can't link it, I have no online access to it, and I don't get billed. The first I know of an amount due is when they send me an email informing me that I'd missed my payment.)

Since AT&T and DIRECTV are now two separate companies, you cannot combine them together as one user ID anymore.

Customer support is over the phone.

Chat is supplmental, but can only be used when an agent is available. There is not a hold system like when you call. But this option I personally do not suggest as quality of info lately has been suspect. And there are no transcripts saved for record on your account so after it is like it never happened.

There is no support by email. There customer support is real-time only. Sorry you find that a waste of time, but that is how their business is setup.

Though AT&T retais majority ownership (70%), DirecTV has effectivley been spun off with the new co-owner taking over management. As such, there will not be an option to link accounts like AT&T was doing when they were the sole owner.
