DirecTV won't install but want to charge cancel fee

i purchased a home and directv wont install due to line of sight issues.  i have to cancel our service and they're trying to charge me an early termination fee.  i want direct but they wont install it.  why is this my problem?  terrible.

If there is no line of sight the install tech should have reported it. And if you never had service there can't be a termination fee.

thanks for the reply.  i have service currently.  im under a contract.  i tried to move service thus avoiding an early term fee.  they can't install due to line of sight; can't even place the order.  when i call to cancel, knowing they can't install at my new location, they're still trying to gouge $360 as an early term fee.  does that sound right or appropriate?

Yes, it's right. Dish has the same policy. It's not Directv's fault you decided to move somwehere without line of sight.

Seeif there's a cable company that will pay your ETF if you install with them.

If you move then you place a Movers order. If tech on site cannot install per no line of sight (NLOS) then they close the appointment with that reason. You then call DirecTV to cancel the account and the agent submits a waiver on the Early Cancellation Fee (ECF) for the NLOS that is already verified.

Now if you move out of country then the ECF is not waived as DirecTV doesn't service out of country to begin with. In that situation the ECF would be valid.

I think the critical thing is "if you place a movers order".  Not sure this policy is still in place. There have been instances of people saying they are moving to a location already know to directv to have no LOS just to avoid the ECF. there's a suspicion of this in the original post.
