Fraudulent phishing email
How do I reach a stateside human from the fraud department? Normal AT&T support confirmed that the email I received must be fraudulent. They connected me to the Fraud Dept, but there is no way to reach a human there and none of the automated options offered applied.
I received a phishing email allegedly from AT&T saying that I have balance due. I talked to an offshore support supervisor who assured me that I have no balance due and that the email must be fraudulent. The email contained the last 4 digits of my account with Directv, my name and email address, all correct and looked extremely legit, including the phone number to pay the alleged bill ( 800-288-2020). I would like to speak with someone in the fraud department about this to see if your servers have been hacked revealing customer data. How can I do this? When I call the fraud number there is no way to reach a human.

I believe you are wasting your time attempting to speak with the fraud department. I’m quite sure they won’t do anything about a phishing email nor provide any information about whether or not any customer data breach has occurred.

I wish you were wrong but from my experience thus far with them, they could give a s__t about customer service.

The Fraud Department, also known as the Identity Theft Team, handles disputes when service has been opened in your name that you didn't authorize. They probably do keep an eye out on common scams out there, but functioned on it is the individual's responsibility to protect their info and not be surprised there are peopel out there pretending to be someone else. It is not their job to police everyone.
That being said, with the above annoucement, they might be taking a more proactive stance to make customers aware. I am curious to see how far they go with that change.
