How to lower my bill

I’m looking for options to lower my current bill other than cancelling service all together.  What options if any do I have?

Review your channels and see if what you enjoy is in a lower costing package to begin with. Verify you don't have any optional services you are not using.

When you call DirecTV, you can certainly ask if any discounts might be available. Be aware they might not be, and even if there are any that they are temporary. Always plan for the regular cost.

@pbeacon1 what is your current programming package (include add-ons as well), how many receivers do you have, and what are each of the receiver models?

Usually, this occurs after one year of your contract. There is a jump in price after the first year. However, this only applies to customers who have subscribed recently (one year).

If your bill is inconsistent, compare them side by side. What exactly is different?

Outside of the annual price adjustment (per increasing costs from the networks), the bill should be steady. Any discounts are temporary, so when they end you would naturally see a change (especially if you had discounts ending in different months). Also check for any one-time charges, like PPVs.

This is a public forum of other customers. If you share the details of your bill or even screen shot (no personal info of course), then we can provide guidance to help clear this up.

But to speak to someone, then you have to call customer support as always.

Anyways, your bill hasn't change for "no reason". There is one, which reading the bills in full should explain.

I call them every 6 months and ask for customer retention. We’ve been with them for 15 years and they always offer a discount. Usually about $60 a month. For the last 2 years they offered the discount for a full 12 months. So just ask.

You are fortunate then as they did a hard pullback of discounts. They are temporary perks, not something you are supposed to have always. And $60 off is about the cost of their 2nd lowest package, which is certainly too much to get on a regular basis. That is exactly what they are addressing. They are a business, not a charity. Your 15 years means nothing if they are losing money on you because of too many credits given.

However, the lowering of bill discussion was a few months ago. The latest poster who stumbled onto this thread has an issue with their bill not being constant and trying to figure out why. It is possible that discounts ending could be part of it. But they are asking about a bill that doesn't make sense and isn't consistent. Trying to add discounts would further complicate matters as that would ensure their bill does fluctuate as discounts are not permanent.

I was charged twice in a month on two separate credit cards. Doesn't make sense, and two different prices. I'm thinking of just cancelling. Is there a penalty (I've only been a subscriber for two months.) And yes, I already spoke with an agent and the charge sounded dubious to me.

Yes, there is a early cancellation fee(ECF) or early termination fee(ETF) of $20 per unused months so with a 2 yr. commitment that is 20x $20=400.

DTV only needs 1 credit card so how come there are 2 on the account?

Great question. I asked that and the guy just tried to figure it out and couldn't. I am sooo disappointed with these people.

Twice in a month on two different cards? Were both payments on the same account? If so perhaps your account is on autopay but you or another household member made a one-time payment from the other card. Otherwise, if account shows only one payment then your other card was used for a payment on another account. You'll have to call DirecTV to confirm or to do some additional research. If the next agent cannot figure it out like the last one, request a supervisor.

To your other question, all DirecTV intro offers have a 24 month service agreement. Canceling before the end of it is valued at $20 for each month left. At 2 months in, so 22 months remaining, you are down to a $440 Early Cancellation Fee (ECF).

Being a brand new subscriber to DirecTV, but not knowing there is a service agreement is concerning. That is listed in all intro offers, the order confirmation, and on the handheld you sign when the tech installs all your equipment. I would suggest reading the documentation before ordering any service, certainly before having it installed where you've signed off that you read and accepted everything.

I cancelled. I am taking the hit. I rather go with another company, Directv was bad as satellite and now deceitful with their 14 day... whatever happened to 30 days? Oh i know, it's called greed and capitalism and the world we live in.

@Back2Cable DTV sat has never had a trial period.  DTV is not going to pay for a tech and dish for a trail, that is why there is ECF to pay for the dish and install if you leave.

DirecTV doesn't have 14 or 30 day buyer's remorse, never did. Perhaps you are thinking about AT&T services (such as phone). Those policies never applied to DirecTV when AT&T bought them. But at 2 months, neither 14 or 30 days would be relevant anymore as you can't turn back time. So your mentioning days long past is a bit confusing.

If you go to the BBB's website and type in their find box DirecTV, with the 2nd box (location/near) box empty, the first result should be the correct one as says "headquarters" in the description if you are taking the time to read.
