Is this a scam?

I got answered a phone call thinking that it was the interview I was waiting for but it turns out it was a girl saying she was from directv and said my name which I said yes to. She then said that for me being a loyal customer they will activate  the showtime channels for no extra charge, she went on to say other things but never asked anything else. I’m afraid that this is a scam and they might have recorded me saying yes. What do you guys think? what should I look out for?

1. DIRECTV never calls you asking for account information.

2. If the number looks suspicious, it most certainly is.

What ‘other things’ did she say? There is a promotion regarding getting three free months of the movie channels, but this is for new customers usually. If you don’t want to worry about it, DON’T. I recommend you change your password on the account just in case and block that number.

The call could very well have been from Directv or an authorized reseller trying to sell you Showtime or some other premium channels. I fell for such a call years ago. The sales pitch is crafted to make it sound like you won’t be charged because they keep using the phrase “at no extra cost”. You may find you have gotten Showtime added to your programming package and likely it won’t be free. So, not really a scam but not quite above board either. When it happened to me, it was for Starz, not Showtime and I kept it for the minimum month, recorded as many worthwhile movies I could find and cancelled before it renewed.
