Lower My Bill From $150 With a Loyalty Discount

I have been with DirecTV since it was PrimeStar - in the 1990's.  My bill as of February has risen to $150.  Is there not a Loyalty Discount available?

Wow, since DirecTV purchased PrimeStar. That has been a minute.

There is not a set "loyalty" discount. You can call and ask if any discounts are available. Be prepared they may be few and far between. After a financial review it was determined too much was given out causing problem accounts, so CEO announced they would be pulled back.

I would review over the channels you watch to see if a lower costing package would be a better fit. Don't want to pay for more than you use.

When you call, also be prepared that they usually will offer equipment upgrade options or a required swap. Some agents do go overboard on that so before you get sub-standard info from a overzealous (or just simply newer) agent, I would suggest sharing your model numbers for experienced users to give you guidance.

A few years ago AT&T's CEO stated there will be no more discounts for existing customers, since then AT&T sold off 30% of DTV and the new partner is running the day to day operations.  You can try calling DTV at 1-800-531-5000 to see if there are any but there may not be any.

This is a customer-to-customer forum and we cannot help you with any discounts here as we are not customer service.  As for Loyalty discounts when AT&T took over Directv they announced that they were going to be doing away with loyalty discounts as they would be losing out.  If you are looking for a cheaper option check out the package you currently have and see if there are any lower packages that would work better for your budget.  If that does not help you, then you could always check into Directv Stream as long as you can access the internet as you would not have all the receiver fees/DVR fees, etc... that you would have with the Satellite service making it considerably cheaper.

Yes, I've used the customer loyalty number (I found two online) and they used to give a $10/mo. Customer loyalty discount, plus three months free of a movie channel (whichever one is currently offered). Beware, they'll tell you you don't need to cancel, but I've had it go both ways. I used to sell Primestar, back in the day, as well as work for AT&T business phones. Wish I still had those "secret numbers" that put you straight into them, no waiting, and no "I'll have to speak to my supervisor. " Those were the days!

Days of agents throwing money at customers to 'buy' their patronage are gone. Now it is all about having the service be the right fit for you. Any discounts that might be available are just a nice lucky perk, no longer the norm to expect.

Yes the normal free (or discounted) that shows charge with a credit to off-set the cost for 3 months is roll to pay. That is how it has been for the last couple decades so there is no excuse for an agent saying you don't have to do anything if you no longer want it by the end of the promotional period. Only those special ones back in the day that were $0 for 30 days (usually around a major network dispute or something) would automatically end, but those were rare even then.

Welcome to the current state of the industry. Actual cost is the new norm.
