Name change on account

I have direct tv through AT&T. The account is in my husband’s name. Recently, he died. I want my name on the bill, so I don’t have to see his name on the mail. After a total of at least 3 hours, and countless phone calls, I am told the only way this high tech company can change that name is if I drive 80 miles to a specific office and show them a death certificate. This hardly seems possible to me.

In all fairness, you do have to provide proof that the account holder has passed.

And I would be happy to fax or mail them that, but they will not allow it.

As someone who has dealt with this issue (my husband passed in 2017), here's what I would do:  Compose a letter with all pertinent information and mail it along with a CERTIFIED DC to Corporate headquarters.  You can Google for that address (hint:  The Dallas Cowboys play in AT&T Stadium).

If going to corporate store is not possible, I see no other way to handle this.
