Scam offer $49.99 per month for two years

received a phone call on 5/28/21 allegedly from DirecTV. They had my name and DirecTV account #. Special offer to lower charges. They furnished an individual promo #. I was to secure an Apple gift card for $300.00 and use it to prepay ATT for 6 months service (DirecTV, internet, and ATT land line). For that I was to receive no bills from ATT for that period. After which I was to receive a bill of $49.99 each month for the next 18 months. Service to include HBO, NFL, and some other thing I do not remember. I was to receive a $100.00 visa gift card by UPS/Fedex (I forget which). I was to purchase a $300.00 gift card and use it to prepay the billing department at 888-566-2071. Payment had to be complete before 8PM tonight or the offer was void. The forgot to mention which time zone for the deadline. Had it been genuine, it sounded like a terrific deal.

now why would directv possibly want apple gift cards? billion dollar companies dont need gift cards, im still surprised so many people still fall for this

Constuctive - thanx for your comment. The caller explained that they are working closely with Apple and that DirecTV accessories and equipment was now for sale and on display in Apple stores. Since I felt the entire call lacked credibility, I did not attempt to verify that particular claim.

The only other place to get DTV equipment is from online dealers.  Doubt DTV will go back to brick and mortar stores.

Wow so basically $49.99/mo for 24 months, but you prepay for 6 months on a gift card, not your own card, so you get no bill for 6 months and then $49.99/mo for another 18 months and you also get HBO and NFL Sunday Ticket included for free as well, plus on top of that you get a $100 Visa card for no apparent reason so you get 2 of those months that you prepaid for back, but if you don’t do it by 8pm tonight the offer is void yet this is the first time you’re even hearing about it.

Now who tf would seriously fall for that

If it sounds too good to be true, it is not. But some (Edited per community guidelines) must fall for it because, as I understand it, the keep calling people. The most disturbing thing to me is that they knew my DirecTV account #.

I got a call like this too.  Funny thing was that the first guy on the phone presented the offer but then had to pass the call to a supervisor who would provide the promotional code. On hold for a few seconds and then a guy who was clearly the same dude I’d just been talking to came on and said he was the supervisor. 

I didn’t bite but I’m trying to figure out how they benefit from the scam.  I was told I needed to buy an Apple gift card at CvS and use that card to pre-pay for a few months.  Where do they get in my pocket?

They tried scam here today. I did not fall for it and gave no account numbers or information and I did report it to Direct TV fraud department. FYI this is a copy of a text they sent me:
