Suspend/reactivate service
If I suspend service shouldn't Directv notify me if they reactivate it? I wasn't planning on reactivating it and didn't know they had until I got the bill. I don't watch it anymore. Seems slightly shady.

You can suspend service for up to six months. Anything more than that will essentially bring your account back into action because it has surpassed the maximum limit.
To confirm, did you temporarily deactivate your service or completely cancel DIRECTV? In any case, as this is a public forum, you’ll need to call DIRECTV (number in my greeting below) and ask for the billing department so they can sort everything out.

@joanbs
You cannot suspend indefinitely/forever. It is for up to 6 months within a 12 month period. So when you suspend you verify the day it will automatically reinstate.
If you don't watch it anymore, then you are not wanting to suspend but cancel completely. They will not let you keep their equipment and an account on standby for years.
Not shady at all. Seems you don't understand how a suspend works. It is temporary. More than that and you are no longer a customer, hence cancel.
