Where is CBS?

The majority of our shows are on CBS!  1.  It shows recording but gives you an ill fated message about not being on the DirecTV lineup anymore.  2. When will CBS come back?  3.  If it does not come back, we will change providers.  We have 2 homes with DirecTV.

Most likely your CBS affiliate removed their feed because DTV will not pay what they wanted to renew the contract.  All TV providers have this problem so have fun moving again when your new provider turn comes up.

Most likely the local affiliate station that owns that channel is in negotiations with DirecTV for their next carriage agreement. Usually you can check your zip code for any negotiations that affect you on their info page, but it seems to be updating since DirecTV's new co-owner. TV Promise - DIRECTV, DIRECTV STREAM, U-verse TV (att.com)

Only the affiliate who owns the channel can return it to DirecTV. This normally happens to leverage customers against the TV provider so costs can be raised for their otherwise free over-the-air (OTA) broadcast.

Changing providers will not save you as all of them go through this. This is because they do not own the channels. For those that are able, it is suggested to just use a regular antenna on your TV until negotiations complete and the channel returns. You may even pick up other channels within range that DirecTV is not allowed to provide you (sub-channels).

Unless both homes particular CBS channel are owned by the same affiliate, then this would not be affecting both of them.

If the majority of what you watch is on free antenna TV, then why have pay TV at all? Unless you are in a deadzone to receive the broadcast, then you should have pay TV for all the variety you cannot get on the free broadcasts.

ALL pay tv providers go through this when applicable,  the ONLY  way to guarantee you won't ever lose your local channels is to use an antenna,  over the air channels are FREE and always have been
