16 channel multiswitch

I have a slimline single Lnb Dish with 1 HR24,3 H25 and 4 D12 receivers. Can I install a 16 channel multiswitch? If so can you advise re: installation.

you would need to change the SWM LNB to a legacy LNB with four outputs.  run all four cables to the SWM16 switch.  make sure to connect the right power supply.  the SWM16 needs a 29 volt power inserter compared to the SWM LNB that uses a 21 volt.

also the SWM16 switch has two outputs.  each output cannot exceed more than 8 tuners.  make sure to balanced the load properly.

no way.  as I stated, you need a conventional LNB to be able to use a SWM switch.

yes, you can just swap out the LNB.  and if you are really careful as not to disturb your dish alignment, you would not have to re-peak your dish.

I assume it's the HR24 that put you "over the top", since the dish will only support 8 tuners. Why didn't you ask DirecTV to install the HR24? They would have installed the different LNB and the SWM16 as part of the install, a lot less expensive than doing it yourself...

You are right but I didn't have the receiver that "put me over the top" when the install was done and some one gave me  the swm16 so I thought I could go from there. By the way. Do either of you have a recommendation for the Legacy LNB to use?

all LNB's of the same type are identical.  they could be made by different manufactures, but the circuitry are  the same.  and ideally you want to use the same type that you have now.  if you have a SWM3 you want to get a conventional 3LNB, and if you have a SW5, you would want o use a conventional 5 LNB

Do you have the power supply for the SWM16?  Personally I'd still call Directv and ask about them installing this.  If they will do it for $49 I'd snap it up.  Most do it yourselfers don't have decent connectors or the tools to install them, and that's just for starters.
