2 remotes not working, do I just bite the bullet and order new ones?

I have an RC65 remote for use with my standard receiver (D12-100) and an RC32 remote for use with my DVR receiver (R15). Both remotes came with the receivers and all equipment is approximately 2 years old.

I am not using them to operate anything other than the Directv receivers.  Within days both remotes have begun acting up.  They won't bring up the guide, won't change channels, and I have to really push on the numbers to get a channel number to be recognized.  I've put in fresh batteries and have tried resetting procedures that I've found here, no luck.

I guess my questions are, is it possible that both remotes 'went' at the same time or could I have receiver issues?   (when I push remote buttons, lights on both the remotes and on the receivers do blink)  If I 'bite the bullet' and buy 2 new remotes, will I have to go thru 'set-up' or will they be programmed from Directv so all I have to do is install batteries and I'm back up and running??

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Nope, receivers are in completely different rooms, tv's are the ones I've been using since I set up the receivers and the receivers are in the same spots.  I did wipe the equipment down with a dry cloth just in case I had missed some dust when I cleaned last!
