What's an "OTR Module"?

The HR34 has five satellite tuners and requires a Single Wire Multiswitch dish setup with sufficient free SWM channels for all five tuners.  For many existing customers this may require an upgrade to a SWM16 distribution setup.

OTR is a over the air module to record local TV channels.

Not sure how "OTR" yields "over the air", but the HR34 can use the AM21 Off-Air Tuner Accessory ($50) to record local digital TV channels using an over-the-air antenna. The AM21 has two internal ATSC Digital TV tuners. It connects to the HR34's rear USB port and integrates your local off-air stations into the HR34's Guide Data.

Whether an AM21 is required depends on where you're located and whether you need the sub channels that many local stations broadcast.  If you go to www.directv.com/locals and put in your ZIP, it will tell you what locals you'll receive.
