7 DVRS and Only 6 are recognized on Network

SurprisedEquipment: (7 Total DVR's)

  • R22 DVR - Switch out from R15 (Guest Bedroom)
  • R22 DVR - Switched out from R15 (Game Loft)
  • R22 DVR - Switched out from R15 (Exercise Room)
  • HR20 HD DVR (Family Room)
  • HR20 HD DVR (Master Bedroom)
  • HR20 HD DVR (Media Room)
  • HR22 HD DVR (Media Room)

CryProblem:

Only 6 DVR's are recognized (on a DVR) as networked at a time.  The seventh DVR will not connect to the network unless you disconnect one of the other 6.  Then the one you disconnect becomes dropped from the network.  My router see's all 7 DVRs, but no DVR will see all 7. (just 6).

The MRV specialist is supposed to be coming by or calling next week to investigate the problem.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Regards and Thanks in advance,

Great point and one that I had not considered.  An inexperienced installer may wrongly assume that the internal bridging of the SWiM16 allows more than eight tuners on one output.

DCD and Sungam,

I went to the attic and verified the SWM16.  Can you look at the photo and tell if it has the splitters you mentioned connected properly?

Here is a closer angle of the splitters.  Looks like he has 3 on one and 4 on the other, but I value your opinions.

Thanks so much for the input...

How do you know your missing one unit?  IS it based on the screen that tells you what other units are connected, or is it that you can't find all your recordings on all the units?  That screen will not show itself, and it maxs out at 5 or 6 units, no matter how many you have hooked up and can actually see...

I's the same unit missing on all dvr's?  or is it different ones? (that would be really weird)

If your not sure, record something that is the same right now on ALL your dvr's, and then look at each playlist, and see whats there and whats missing on each...

The SWM16 training manual clearly states:  "SWiM 16 is Directv MRV capable across all sixteen channels. Means all MRV capable receivers within the installation that are connected to the SWiM 16 output ports #1 & #2 will share content, view content and share Broadband access (if Internet access is part of installation)"

I haven't personally seen a big installation so I don't know how the DVR's/receivers would handle the screen size limitation you allude to.  It may well be eric that your system is working correctly and that your problem is that the user interface simply cannot display all of the DVR's.  From a practical standpoint if each DVR had 20 recordings, how many can you use?

PROBLEM RESOLVED!!! Smile

Inkahauts,

You were exactly correct.  I tried your test and taped a show on all 7 DVRs.  And WOWLaughing all 7 shows showed up on all seven DVR lists.  Which confirmed that all DVR's are listed in the list of all 7 I have connected.  So I am very happy now.  The screen that shows what is connected does not matter to me.  What counts is working.

Thanks DCD and Inkahauts, Sungam, and Madmack for your inputs and help on this issue.

I assume DTV will fix the bug soon or at least pass it on to other installers so they are not pulling their hair out on big installs.  My install company here in Texas is still working on the problem and won't know it is fixed until I contact them and explain. (Which I will do now)

Thanks again...!!!

Thanks for the feedback. I'm sure that there a lot of tips, tricks and quirks that we'll learn as everyone gains more experience with Whole Home.

For information sake of those that might view this thread in the future, here is a pdf of all 7 DVR screens showing the status of "Networked DVRs"; Again even though all 7 are connected and working perfectly.

Thanks again for the help guys...

djdicetn,

Between the DTV Coax and CAT-6 to all rooms, speaker runs, etc you are probably right.  They could probably take my cable runs in the attic, tie them together and lift the house with a helicopter.. LOL

I got bit on this one on my two H21-200s and my sole H21-100. I've 6 DVRs which show fine under status when you note that the DVR from which you are checking does not show itself. But on my H21 receivers I would only see 5 and no scroll option to go to more.

Checking the list recordings found all six units. It seems the display screen for the status check is limited to 5 units on the output displays.

I thought it might have been specific to the firmware release I was using at the time and it has been reported under that context.

Don "I git a bit frantic till I figured it out myself" Bolton
