771 error (searching for signal)

Hello,

Ever since this morning my satellite has been 'searching' for signal with the error message 771. All I know is I have a HD DVR and its less then a year old and is one of the newer models. Anyhow, I have read a few forums on here and I have done the suggested things (reset, check cables and dish) and nothing is working. This is worse then not knowing where the remote is, ha! Here is what my readings say under signal strength:

 

Satellite Transponders (32 of 101)

1-8      56 57 60 0 54 64 57 65

9-16    51 57 58 0 55 66 51 67

17-24  53 45 58 42 55 69 56 67

25-32  55 46 56 0 58 65 47 72

 

The readings are basically the same for tuner 1 and 2. The numbers were fluctuating as I was typing them if that matters any. Please let there be a solution as this is very frustrating.

Most likely your dish needs realignment.  Best to call DirecTV and request a service visit.  It's free if you have their Equipment Protection Plan, or within 90-days of installation. Otherwise ~$50.

ugh i hate to hear that lol. i do indeed have the protection plan (thank god). i just wonder why nothing but the active button works. it will pull up the loto numbers and the local weather just like any other time. i would think if the dish needs to be aligned for shows, that it wouldnt be able to pick up anything. maybe i'm wrong?
