Wow, those readings are very messed up.  Very unusual to see just a few transponders with strong signals, and zero everywhere else.  Best to call DirecTV and request a service visit.  It's free if you have their Equipment Protection Plan, or within 90-days of installation. Otherwise ~$50.

How do those numbers get adjusted?  Are they dependent on the position/reception of the dish, the cables connecting the system, the performance of the box, etc?  What causes them to be correct or incorrect in the first place?

Typically with dish mis-alignment you would see low numbers on all of the relevant transponder.  But your readings are very unusual. Rather than low readings, you have very high readings, but only on a few transponders.

Who installed your equipment?  When?

Did this ever work properly?

Do you have other Receivers/DVRs?  Do they all have the same problem?

It was installed by DirecTV initially, we have not changed or touched anything on it since it was installed.  It was installed in July of last year.

It has worked properly since it was installed.  In fact, it is working properly now.  We're in Charlotte, NC and have had days for all of this last week (this started about half way through this passed week) where more than 80% of the day it's been very overcast and/or pouring rain.  I know that weather is not supposed to have an impact.  I'm not disputing that.  However, logic deduces that the weather is the only variable that has changed in our situation here.  It's been the longest run of gray weather we've had since last summer.  Nothing else has been changed.

It started working last night.  It was also bright and sunny for the end of the afternoon/evening.

We only have one box.  It's the receiver/DVR.

I'm guessing that you have a defective dish LNB that's allowing moisture inside.  Best to call for a service visit because it's likely to happen again.

Is that part of the dish?  We actually will be moving in a week or two to a house that has a dish on the roof already.  I'm thinking we'll just move and save ourselves a service call fee.  We're willing to accept that this problem may continue until we move and we're willing to tolerate it until then and just worry about our new system.  Thanks

Yes, the LNB is the "hockey puck" thing on the dish.
