771 taking over...

For 3 months after initial install no sign of 771 issues.  Now more and more channels unusable due to 771 return codes.  Call to tech support walked through the usual subjects, result was a request for me to order on-site support.  They weren't interested in the details below, but perhaps by posting this I can get a "we'll that's your problem right there".  Not knowing what I should receive but the low numbers on some (excl 0) make me suspicous.  One main receiver and 2 genie slaves.  Some coax replaced inside to see if any change (no).  This is the satellite scan output:

If you do try to fix this yourself, the first thing you should do is check the dish mast for plumb using a level.  Even if everything is tight, a fresh install on a shingle roof can sag as the shingles compress and all the HD signals will go South, which is your case.  The mast can be plumbed by adjusting the two diagonal braces.

Your dish has moved out of alignment.  Perhaps the installer didn't tighten everything down properly.  Best to have a service tech come and realign the dish for you.

Thanks, that confirms my suspicions.  So much for free installation... Though just out of principle I will probably try to fix it myself.

Since you're just barely past the 90-day installation warranty, perhaps they'll come fix this for free.  You should certainly ask.

Bingo.  Thanks dcd.

Went out with a small level and noticed it slightly out of plumb.  loosen 4 bolts, shift the mast perhaps 2-3mm, re-tighten and voila problem fixed!  Was this close to buying a meter too but didn't.  Thanks for the help.

You're welcome (and good for you).  It's sometimes hard to believe that a tiny out of plumb condition can cause such havoc with signal strengths.
