Adding a Connector in the Living Room

We are remodeling our home and working on hiding the DirecTV cables behind the drywall. We would like to add two ports in our walls so when we decide to rearrange the living room we aren't stringing coax cable all around it. We've added a splitter to run the cable one way, and then the other from where it enters our home, but it seems that because it is a generic splitter, and not a DirecTV one, it isn't connecting to our dish. Do we have to have a DirecTV issued splitter for this? If so, how do we get a second one?

you need to run a home run from each location

I am not sure I understand what "home run" means. Does this mean to the dish?

@chellek17 yes, the cables from the actual dish most likely go to a cable box on the side of your house when installed they connected each cable to go to the rooms where you have tv, so run it from your wall jacks to that cable box and coild them up in there, should you decide to change wall locations then go to the cable box and connect it to the new wallplate. not sure if splitters can be used as ive never been able to get it to work with a splitter. directv might have some sort of active splitter available for exactly what your trying to do

DTV SWM green label splitters are available online in two, four or 8way sizes, DTV recommends no more then 8 splits. If you have a non SWM system then you can't use any kind of splitters.
