Adding external hard drive

I am not sure what I need to look for in adding a 1 or 2 tb external hard drive for more space.  I know it needs to be esata, but the models recommended by DTV are very outdated so would iike to have some informed recommendations as to what to buy.

I'm using a 1T Western Digital AV-GP drive and a Rosewill eSata enclosure (both purchased from newegg.com) that has a built in fan and have been running it for prob 2yrs now.  Just remember, when you hook up the eSata external drive, it disables the internal drive, so pick a good time to switch where you've watched most your old programming.  You won't loose the content on the internal drive but it's not ideal to keep un-plugging/plugging back in the eSata cables.  You'll also need to re-setup your recording list of shows so while you are still on the old internal drive, make a list.  I stuck with the 1T drives just to be cautious whether or not there was a limitation at the 1.5T or 2T points that exists with some PC's and operating systems.  I haven't looked recently to see if this is a concern.  Really depends on how much space you need.  I really only record TV shows (HD) and never really had less than 70% free.

Also, be cautious right now.  1T drives used to be around $100 but with the flooding in Thialand, prices are very high as supply is limited.  A drive is very easy to put into the enclosure.  It's a few screws and a plug or two.  You'll have far superior space at a reasonable price compared to the pre-built brands.
