That is because the USB ports are only for connecting the long discontinued AM21 OTA tuner or for charging small devices.

What sort of HDMI "y-cable" are you using? Generally you cannot split an HDMI signal that way. You'll need a powered HDMI splitter that supports HDCP copy protection so that both devices can process the video signal.

No, that won't work. Note that the description says nothing about supporting HDCP copy protection over HDMI.

You need a power splitter, something like this ....

Most powered HDMI splitters need an A/C wall outlet.

A powered HDMI splitter that supports High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) 2.2 is what you need. The networks require HDCP support so that people are not trying to record content in HD quality which cuts into their physical/digital media sales.

As a note, though some work rather well, it is not a guarantee. The TV service is designed so that each TV has their own client/receiver where you are paying $7 for the authorized TV. Naturally with the splitter, both TVs would be on the same channel always.

As a reminder, it must connect by HDMI. The USB port on the DirecTV box is only for the long discontinued AM21 (replacement in testing LCC) or powering a small device such as a cooling fan for an external HDD.

SORRY, THE MICROUSB  WAS REFERRING TO POWER SUPPLY QUESTION

op asked:  what would I use for a power source in our office?

SO I SAID: it says microUSB on bottom-most line on one of the other views of the product.  see here :   https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41KgMqu8OKL._AC_SY350_.jpg

i'm sure Juniper is correct  :  the splitter is powered by an a/c adapter. it is the other end of that A/C ADAPTER, the end that plugs into the splitter's power jack, that must be microUSB..........the Directv box and both of the tvs would connect to splitter with HDMI TO CARRY THE AUDIO AND VIDEO AND HDCP DATA

that microUSB adapter looks the same as the charger for my android phone that i owned before i got the newest style. you remember, it mattered which way the charger end was turned, it would only go in one way.

i hope this clears up any confusion.
