Adding space to my HR-24 DVR's

If I added this 2TB HDD to my HR24-500 DVR's would it see the full 2TB of space or would some of it go to waste? Also what is the size of the HDD build into it? What is the highest capacity eSATA HDD it will see and use fully?

there is always going to be a difference in the advertised capacity and the actual capacity.  this is because of the method use by the manufactures and the actual method used by CPU's to determine such capacity .  so don't expect to see the full 2 TB available.  the HR24 have a 500 GB HDD.  the current HDDVR's can sup[port up to a 2 TB HDD

Keep in mind that the DVR formats the disk with 3 partitions.  One for the operating system, one for the "watch now" movie selection and the largest for recording of programs.  Also keep in mind that if a DVR develops a problem and has to be replaced the programs recorded on the external disk are lost as well.

From what I remember, the MY BOOK series will NOT work. You'll need to get MY DVR or an external drive and enclosure. See these threads:

twelfthjoe,

User riveralph is spot on.......the WD MyBook series will NOT work with DirecTV HD DVR's. As riveralph eluded to, the WD MY DVR Expander series will. Also, 2TB is currently the maximum size eSATA you can use. I highly recommend you get an external drive "exclusively designed" for audio/video(DVR) usage. Drives designed for "data storage" are not good candidates at all.
