Alexa on off voice control of direct TV genie boxes

For years, we have been able to turn on and off directv boxes with Alexa. This was extremely convenient. One command, Alexa turn TV on or turn TV off would turn the TV, receiver, subs and directv box on or off. That functionality stopped working.

The software was already written and working. It cost DTV nothing to leave it where it was.

Why take this away?

It would be nice to restore at least the alexa on off control to the DTV boxes. With all of this green this and that, leaving the box on 24/7 is a waste of energy.

DTV receivers are never off they are in standby mode.  I'm sure DTV was paying a licensing  fee to use it.

I understand the HR 44 was just in standby. Regardless, the control is by HDMI CEC, which has been around for almost 20 years. Not sure why they disabled something that cost nothing to use. Cable and satellite are both losing subscribers and should be doing all they can to keep them.

HDMI-CEC still works.  DTV has decided to go with Google.

We used to be able to go into standby with Alexa. We could add the genie device to a fire cube or How can we do this with Google?

To use Google you'd need to get a Gemini Genie client receiver model C71KW-400. You currently have an HR44 which cannot use Google due to it not running a firmware known as Android TV.

No Genie runs Android TV it is only the C71WK Gemini mini client that runs Android TV.

The way I read it it seemed you implied there was a Genie that runs Android TV.  The W means Wireless and the K is 4K so doesn't make a lot of difference if you use Wireless 4K or 4K Wireless.
