Android Beta?
I know Android is listed as coming soon but I was wondering if there's a beta program. I received my Nomad yesterday and it's working great! I have my series all loaded up for a trip I'm taking soon but would love to be able to try out the Android app.
If there's no beta, has anyone heard of an ETA on the Adroid app delivery? Android is the main reason I purchased the Nomad and it would be good to know more than "Coming Soon"

Unfortunately we never are told what coming soon means time wise. I can tell you this though, they have a team who are right on top of this release. If you were to read the "stickies" at the top of the page you'd see that the info posted there changes on a daily basis as they get feedback for users like yourself and the support folks.
I like the device too, and think it will be great for our vacations. We intend loading up a passport drive for use with our laptop. Unfortunately neither our iPhone or iPad has enough memory to hold much of a playlist.

My 32Gig Sony Tablet S does.... ESPECIALLY with the 32gig SD card which IS mountable by the way.... would be cool if the android software would allow us to configure the sd2 mount location.

Would be great if we could get some official statement on timing. Any chance this would be released before Thanksgiving? Or are we looking at 2012?
Throw us a bone. 🙂

Nobody here knows the timing.
Thus the reason for asking for an official statement. 😉

You're not going to get one.

It's a "lie" if we make up an answer. It's not a lie when we honestly say that nobody here knows. It's very unlikely that DirecTV will announce anything until it's actually available, and hopefully fully debugged.

Never asked anyone to make up an answer - thus my confusion as to the response.

Apparently you didn't read post #2, that answered the question totally in the first sentence.

It answered my wish for an official statement? Awesome! Thanks.

Thanks for the information you provide, , but maybe you could go back to the team, and say how about allowing certain accounts to beta test try out and see if apps works (such as members posting on this forum , that IS how the Android community work and if you are going to be apart of this community then please would you kindly ask your managers and higher ups , that us Andonis users like to be kept in the loop , also you advertise in your emails that you support 2.1.2.2 . (please also pass this information on that most larger tablets not smart phones run Androud 3.0 Honeycomb which most probably people will use to watch HD Videos , has your team actually done any public surveys regarding this issue ?) not will support , though your website says will come soon, .
The general answers that " we don't know" sometimes isn't just good enough when you have paying customers that you ADVERTISE you will "Soon" support Android Devices, soon can be weeks months or years , and Directv is taking our money for services not rendered , and false advertising ; and if it in development would it behoove you to not ask users of your products what would you like to see , remember Android is Open Source , Community Based and is grown from public awareness and ideas , so I don't know if i speak for the rest of the Android DirectV customers and users that would it hurt you to be OPEN in development of your products rather than being not in the Know and pushing customers away ?

Would you rather they commit to a date and then miss it? It will be ready when it's ready. And they probably already have plenty of folks testing it.
