Bad install
Some months ago (toward the beginning of 2009), my fiancé and I moved into an apartment and had DirecTV installed.
We were under the assumption that installation was free, but the gentleman who installed it required a $40 installation fee. We paid, thinking we must have misunderstood something, and forgot about it.
I had an appointment toward the end of the installation, so I just wrote a check for him and left. When I returned, I found out that he had drilled a hole from the outside (through brick) to the inside of the apartment, and torn a pretty large, terrible-looking hole in the wall.
A few months back, we were having trouble with our receiver, and a technician came to the apartment. As it turns out, there were several things wrong with the installation.
1) The dish was mounted on a telephone pole, which the serviceman told us was illegal.
2) The installer had ran the loose cable across our yard without burying it or mounting it to the side of the house. My father-in-law mounted this to the side of the house for us.
3) The obvious gigantic hole in the wall.
4) The installer hadn't set up our receiver with HD on our TV. In fact, he told us that the remote wouldn't work with our TV, so we'd have to use the TV remote to control the volume. The serviceman fixed this for us.
Aside from #4, the serviceman did nothing to remedy these problems. He washed his hands clean of the situation by saying that he would have to report this to a supervisor, who would then come out, survey the damage, and file a report.
We were also told that we would be refunded the $40 that we paid for installation, and that we could be reimbursed for repairing the damage to our wall.
We never heard from anyone again.
My (now) wife and I are buying a new house, and we're wondering if sticking with DirecTV will still be worth it in light of all of these issues.
I guess what I'm asking is - How are these issues going to be resolved?
