Black box blocking half of the TV screen

Just recently, my BR TV has started having a rectangular black box that blocks most of the bottom half of the television screen. In the box, at the top line, is the date and time along with a few other letters and numbers that change rapidly. These are in white. I can't get it to go away. It does not show up when using any menu options, guide, info, etc.

sounds like somebody turn on the closed caption settings on your TV.  with the TV's remote control, navigate to the TV settings and turn CC off

Thanks for the idea, but it is not the CC. This box is much larger and doesn't have what's being said in it. Also, when I first turn on the TV, it is not there, but just shows up later.

Please follow the instructions as peds48_installs stated, to ensure this is not the case.

There are multiple levels of CC, including a TEXT mode, that will onlty appear on certain commercials, and will display nothing but jibberish, and this clearly sounds like a CC issue.

AFTER you have completed peds48_installs instructions, IF the problem persists, take a picture and post it.

Good Luck!!

It's a CC issue. One of the "unused" closed caption modes on the TV has been switched on by accident.  Use the TV remote to find the CC control screen, and either switch off CC completely or set it to CC1 which I believe is always used.

Note that in these cases the box never has the actual closed caption words in it because there is no feed to the box, sort of like turning on your TV but not the Directv receiver.

I just had the same thing it was the TV closed caption setting not the Satelite Box. I found the TV remote pushed the cc button and changed it from c1 to OFF. It worked!
