I programmed my Bose Soundbar 550 to my Direct TV RC-73 remote:
IMPORTANT! This sound bar is only IR. Follow the onscreen prompts to put your
RC-73 into IR mode. Then setup your RC-73 to work with your TV in IR mode.
1. With the TV & the Bose Soundbar 550 ON, press the menu button on the remote.
Remote>Menu>Settings>Remote Control>IR/RF Setup>Set to IR
2. Remote>Menu>Settings>Remote Control>Audio (Code 2 & 3) gave me Audio up, audio down and mute.
3. Turn ON Sound Lock
The manual that came with my Bose Soundbar 550 was also for the Bose Smart Soundbar 600 so this procedure may work for both. I'm using a Samsung UN46B8000XF TV with a Digital Audio Out (Optical) cable. I still have to turn the soundbar ON with the remote that came with the Bose Soundbar 550 but at least I can control the sound. People that can connect through ARC (Audio Return Channel) or E-ARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) with an HDMI cable shouldn't have this problem.
My RC-73 gave a choice of RF or IR. It wouldn't work the Bose Soundbar 550 when in RF mode and I entered the RF codes. When I switched it to IR mode I had to reprogram it for the TV to work in IR mode. This turned out to be a blessing because when a button gets pressed and the remote isn't pointed at the TV nothing happens. My wife used to hit he ON button when she stored the remote in it's holder.
Once I got the TV set back up to work in IR mode, then I was able to get the soundbar setup and working. Like me, my TV is old. It doesn't support E-ARC or even ARC so I have to use a Digital Audio Out (Optical) cable, hence the bar doesn't turn on when it "sees" sound.
The RC7X remotes are made to be programed in RF so most of the time it is left in that mode but to turn on/off and control the volume of the TV it has to send IR as most TVs still use IR. Glad you got it to work.
I was able to solve the problem with the soundbar not automatically turning ON when you’re not using an ARC or E-ARC HDMI cable.
With the TV and the soundbar both on, hold down the power button on the remote that came with the sound bar until the white light on the sound bar blinks twice. After doing that, he soundbar will turn on when it receives audio from the TV.
The power button on the remote serves as a toggle to turn on/off automatic audio activation. To turn off audio activation, with the TV and the soundbar both on, just hold the power button down again until the white light on the sound bar blinks twice.
I contacted BOSE technical support today and was told automatic audio activation couldn’t be done when using an optical input. I also contacted Direct TV technical support yesterday and the lady I spoke with said that the RC-73 didn’t support the BOSE 550 Soundbar. I bought this soundbar from Walmart for $199 and it has much better sound than the Samsung soundbar we were using. I guess it pays to be persistent.

That might work if that Bose system was listed, OP says it is not.

The RC7X remotes already use both IR and RF at the same time.
