Built-in Multi switch

on a Slimline 5LNB I suppose it's possible for the built-in multi switch to go bad? I'm missing some chanell's on the basic receivers and no signal at all on my HD DVR receiver

Start with this , Home built 2001 with 8 rooms prewired with RG-6 all terminating in the attic with anticipation there was cable service in our area,So ran 2 pieces of coax from attic to exterior near the power meter. No cable so at the time went with "dish notworth",Sat dish had to be placed at opposite end of home for a clear view of the sky,Dish Net..k only lasted till contract ran out, have been with DirecTV ever since, So now I have the Slimline 5lnb dish with built in multi switch I should only need 1 coax from the dish off 1 of the 4 multiswitch outs ,ran into my attic to the Zinwell 6x8 multi switch and from there I can connect the rest of the rooms,Correct ? Why would I need to run any more than than 1 feed from the dish to the Zinwell switch?
Oh,and for my DVR service I can run 2 outs off the Zinwell to 1 room for my HR20-700 correct?
