Caller ID
Why is the caller ID feature not capable on the Whole Home system? The installer unhooked the phone lines when we converted to the Whole Home.

Caller ID works fine (or at least as well as it usually does) on Whole Home DVR systems. Reconnect the phone lines (if DSL use a filter) and give it a try. Be sure to turn it on in the setup menu.

He probably disconnected the phone line because the DVRs can now use the internet connection to report PPV purchases. But if you want Caller ID, reconnect the phone lines.

The technician disconnected my phone line and told me caller id was not compatible with whole home dvr. So is it or isn't it compatible? He told me not to plug the phone line back in.

caller ID has nothing to do with WHDVR. you can connect your phone line back up.

I connected the phone line and the whdvr stopped working. I reset all the receivers and it still crashed. I removed the phone line, reset and everything works fine. I do not have dsl. The technician told me this was a known issue and that is why they are instructed to disconnect the phone line when from the receiver when they install whdvr. He told me directv was aware of the hardware issue but no fix has been found.

huhh?? are you sure you are connecting a phone line and not an ethernet cable? also are you sure you are connecting the phone line to the phone jack in the receiver and not the ethernet port?

Totally imaginary on his or someone's part. The two are not interconnected and I have three HD DVR's on a Whole Home system and all three are running caller ID Vwithout an issue. Connecting anything (except a required DECA module) to the Ethernet port on the HD DVR or HD receiver will indeed crash the Whole Home system and should never be done.

That's total BS. I have phone lines connected to several of my Whole Home networked DVRs with zero issues.
If you're absolutely certain that you're plugging the phone cable into the DVR's phone jack and not the ethernet port (easy mistake to make), then you have a defective DVR.

Are you running a DSL system? If so, do you have at least one phone filter on each of the lines connecting to the receivers? I'm no DSL expert, but I guess it might be possible for some interaction (in the DSL modem) between the phone and Internet portions of the line. Have you tried putting a phone on the lines in question to assure that you actually have a phone signal?
As to not being compatible. I don't know where you're finding these "experts" but I'm here to tell you that what you claim they are saying is horse hockey. I told you in post #10 that I have 3 HD DVR's all connected to telephone lines plus the Internet and caller ID works just fine.
