Can Home Internet be injected via receiver with built-in DECA?

This may well be answered in other posts.  But this stuff is so weird and new, its difficult to tell.

When my upgrades (so far unsuccessful) including Whole-Home DVR were implemented yesterday, the installer insisted that no external DECA was needed at the station near the cable modem since the receiver being installed there had a built-in DECA.

My belief is that a separate external DECA is needed to accomplish the connection to the router.  For one thing, the excellent diagram posted here recently says that is the way it is done.  Furthermore, the internet settings in the HD receiver (with the built-in DECA) do not have any DHCP settings, so it is hard to imagine it being able to communicate with a home network..

Can someone confirm that an additional external DECA is required even if a modern HD receiver is at the same station in the house?

Alternate question:  I may not be appreciating the internet settings in that HD DVR (HR24-700).  Even without Whole-Home DVR concerns, wouldn't the internet settings have to DHCP and NAT technologies to get anywhere?  I am thinking I must be missing something.  The older HD DVR I have has DHCP-styled settings and it worked fine with my home internet.  The fact that the H24-700 is different may mean its purpose is different.

Thanks!

You are correct and it appears that some of the installers need further training.  A separate DECA module needs to be connected to your router.  Once this has been connected, your receiver will receive network settings via DHCP from your router.

The H24 series boxes have DECA built in as you're aware.  When you enable DECA, the H24 disables the Ethernet port.  If you connect an Ethernet cable and reset the box, full DHCP capabilities are restored but the DECA is disabled.  That's why you must use a separate DECA module (with 18v power supply) to connect the system to your router.  The H24 can be switched back and forth (by red button reset) from DECA to Ethernet depending on which cables are connected.
