Can I get rid of my land line?

So I'm looking to eliminate my home land based phone line.  I plan on switching to something like an XLINK box tied to a shared mobile phone line (and probably port my home phone number to the cell phone).

At any rate, the only thing really holding me back at this point is DirecTV and the fact that my receives need a phone line connection.  Are there any options here? Like newer receivers that can connect over the internet instead? Or am I stuck?
