Cannot see DVR recordings when ssatellite down

I am in an RV.  When I cannot get satellite signals my genie will stop listing my programs after about 12 hours.  It just says "please wait".  Guessing that they snuck in software to disable the DVR unless it sees a satellite.

Any workarounds?

The receivers have always had that built in, the receivers need to receive the activation code at times to remain active this is how DTV removes service when the account is overdue or canceled.

You've been lucky then. DirecTV DVRs have always become "bricks" when disconnected from an active satellite feed and subscription. The only variable is how long that takes.  Could be weeks, could be days, could be hours.  Just depends on when the box gets "pinged".
