Cannot watch DVR shows from second room states too many recordings watched in Main Room

I have been enjoying  DVR whole house for the last month.  I can watch a recording from any of the three rooms I have with only one DVR.  I can watch one program in the workout room while my niece watched another in her room.  However, things seem to change the last couple of evenings.  I cannot access the recordings in the DVR the receiver.  It stated there are TOO MANY RECORDINGS WATCHED IN THE MAIN ROOM (DVR). To my knowledge, there was only one other person watching from her room @ that night and the MAIN ROOM machine was "Off".  It never used to be a problem until now.  I reset all the machines in the house and unplugged and did what I could, checked the SHARING, and authorized everything.  I still get this error.  What can I do?

2. Correct.  Those other boxes can view a recording from DVR2.  But only one of them at a time can view it.

However, I could watch the same program from DVR 1 on any of the TVs?

You can't watch a recording from DVR1 if HD Box 1 is viewing its recording.  Remember, each DVR can only stream its recordings to one remote Receiver/DVR at a time.  You can, however, view any of the recordings on the TV connected to DVR1 even if a remote Receiver/DVR is viewing one of its recordings.

No.  Each DVR can play one program on it's host TV and send one stream to one satellite receiver at any given time.  Trying to watch the program from DVR1 on two receivers is not possible, regardless of which program it is.  You can of course watch the same program on the host DVR and one satellite simultaneously.

This is very misleading.  Your answer center (http://support.directv.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2737/kw/how%20many%20tvs%20can%20watch%20a%20recorded%20program/related/1) states the following:

How manydifferent recordedshows can my family watchat the same time with one HD DVR?

With DIRECTV's Whole-Home DVR service, you and your family can watchtwo recordedshows at the same time on separate TVs— for example, your kids can watchone show on the TV in their room and you can watchanother in the living room. If you happen to have a second HD DVR, you can watchup to four recordedshows at the same time in different rooms — every HD DVR in your Whole-Home DVR setup allows you to watchtwo recordedshows at the same time in different rooms.

This makes no mention that one of the "different rooms" needs to be the room with the HD DVR.

Any chance of a software upgrade in the near future to "fix" this problem?

Seems pretty clear to me.  I doubt it's going to change.  The DVR's hardware can only stream one recording to any remote devices at a time.  Of course, you can view a different recording at the same time on the local DVR's TV. That's why two DVR's makes it possible to view four different recordings simultaneously.

There may well be a "super" DVR available in the future with the capability of streaming to more than one satellite at a time.  Stay tuned.

I am getting the message that there are too many recordings being watched by the main DVR and it won't let me watch any shows on my playlist.  I have tried the reset of each receiver and DVR and it still doesn't work.  I don't have any ethernet cables plugged in either. Any thoughts?

Best to start your own new thread using the "Create New Post" button on the main forum page. Your problem may very well be different from the original poster's. With a new thread you can provide more information about your equipment, location, and troubleshooting you've tried so far. And this forum software makes it difficult to track or respond to folks that add onto someone else's thread.

I'm having the same problem.  Can't watch any of my recordings from any TV except the living room tv where the DVR is.  I get the same message about  TOO MANY RECORDINGS WATCHED IN THE MAIN ROOM (DVR).  Well there are no other TV's on.   This is ridiculous.   Direct TV needs to get to the bottom of this problem.

Try resetting ALL of your DVRs and Receivers using the red reset button behind the front panel access card door.

I read further after posting and did see where someone else that was having the problem reset their boxes and it fixed the problem.  I did the same and it also fixed it for me.  Thanks Tech support and thanks for having these "threads" or blogs or whatever they are called.
