Can't change the batteries in my remote

I have the Direct TV HD DVR (I don't know which model), and the batteries are going dead in my remote. I have purchased new Duracell AA batteries and have tried 2 different packs and none of them work when I put them in the remote. And yes, I have checked that I put them in the right way. When I then proceed to put the old dying Energizer batteries back into the remote, it continues to work (very weakly). I don't understand why I am not able to put new batteries into this remote to get it working normally again. Thanks for any help!

You might try a different battery brand.  I've seen a couple of reports of folks with this sort of problem with Duracell brand AA batteries.

I've had similar problems with new batteries.  This might sound weird, but try using batteries that have less than 1.50 volts. Some new batteries have more than 1.50 volts and when installed overload the remote.  I've seen some new batteries have a charge of 1.65 volts.
