Can't setup my TV with Directv so my Genie Remote controls power and volume
I just purchased a new Sony TV and when I went to setup the TV with my Directv the system recognized that the TV was a Sony but said that it was trying one code of one and it fails every time. There's no option I can see that will allow me to specify what model of TV it is or to enter a different code. Can anyone help me by telling me how I can get my new TV setup?

Thanks everyone. there was something kludged up with the setup of my my Genie remote controller and my DirecTV receiver and after wiping out the remote and starting over on the DirecTV side I was finally able to try different codes to get my Genie remote controller to turn the Sony TV on and off and to control the volume. Unfortunately, that didn't solve everything.
With my old Samsung TV that was not a smart TV when you powered up the TV and the DirecTV box the TV would detect that it was receiving a signal from my HDM!1 port. After being off for a period of time the Sony defaults to the Sony main menu and you have to switch to HDMI1 using a remote. Well, the arrow buttons and Select on the Genie remote do not function with the Sony TV, they only control the on/off and volume. I called Sony Tech Support and the Technician remote controlled my TV and attempted to program the TV to respond to the Genie remote but once he was in the settings he said that there was no capability within this new TV to control the remote associated with the HDMI1 port. and said that unfortunately I would have to use the Sony remove to switch to HDMI1. This is somewhat frustrating to have a new TV and you cannot tell it to bypass the main menu and always default to HDMI1. If anyone knows a way to give the Genie remote controller more capabilities let me know. how to do this.

Hello @moondoggy! We're happy you were able to setup your Genie remote.
At this time the DIRECTV remote powers on your TV and controls the volume while watching DIRECTV. It can also control audio devices such as sound bars. To adjust TV settings or access third-party apps, use the remote control that came with your TV.
Please reach back out if you have any additional questions regarding your Genie remote. Thank you for being an AT&T customer!

moondoggy51 - this is a TV issue not a remote issue.
Most TVs have a "power on" default which you can override through the TV menus so it defaults to a specific input like HDMI1. What TV do you have (exact model number)?

If you have an RC7X remote press and hold the enter button until the light blinks twice then release and press again to cycle through the TV inputs.

The remote is not relevant.
Most Sony TVs I have come across have the ability to set a preferred input. It's in the part of the menu for "inputs". However I seem to remember that if you set an input to "HDMI control" you can't set it as the default preferred input. Make sure both the TV and the directv receiver have HDMI control or CEC control or whatever it's called set to "on".
I looked at the online mnanual for that TV. It's a mess, but I did find a reference to "power on behavior" which implies you can set say HDMI1 as the default instead of the home screen.

Thanks everyone for their comments. Unfortunately, I found out that the Sony also has another limitation in that I cannot switch from DirecTV to ATT-TV because the ATT-TV app on Google Play is incompatible with the Sony TV. This has become a showstopper as switching would have eliminated the issue with the Genie Remote and another issue of not being able to swap DirecTV receivers to a 4K receiver without signing up for a two year contract. Bottom line is that there's simply too many things the Sony can't do that a Samsung can so the TV is going back to Best Buy tomorrow while I can under their 15 day return policy.
