Can’t setup satellite system, can’t get to satellite signal strength page in menu to eventually connect to satellite

I have a genie HS17-500 and I can’t begin to setup my satellite connection. As soon as I turn on the power and the genie goes through all the setup phases, it stops at “Recordings” setting on the left hand side of the “settings” page after pressing menu on the remote. I therefore can’t get to the satellite signal strength pages to see if my satellite is pointed in the right direction. I use a satellite app to point the satellite in the right general direction and then zero in on the right position after that. My system uses a HS17-500, a splitter, a M/C41-700 and or M/C61W-700 and new cable.

I’ve set this system up many times and it worked but now it doesn’t. I just can’t get to the satellite signal strength page. All I see is “Recordings” on the left hand side of the menu page.

I need HELP to get to the satellite signal strength page to complete the setup. Get you help me.

I tried new lnbs, splitters and cable but nothing works.

I have the same situation as Gmonken. I have  an HS17-500 connected to a C61W-400 client that I regularly move to a vacation location.  The HS17 and the client are communicating.  I have done all the various resets but cannot get to any of the setup options, particularly the satellite setup with signal strengths.   This has never happened before. I do have access to my recordings stored on the HS 17 hard drive.

Is there some other type of reset other than a power up or red button reset on the HS17?

There is a factory reset, but this will erase all recordings from the hard drive, so it is an unwanted action. If both you and the OP are experiencing issues accessing the satellite signal meter with an HS17 setup, I’d assume that this is a bug in the current software that should be resolved. Otherwise, going forward, you’d have to purchase an AIM meter to aim your directv dish.

I love how they tell me they are resetting something.  Do they not realize they cant reset my receiver without a satellite connection?

This issue is not account-related, as multiple people are having the issue. How might a DM be of use? A public solution for this is a much more constructive way to resolve the issue at hand.

Did you ever get the problem solved? From my experience all Directvhelp wants to do is get a paid service call. I believe the solution is simple but unknown by me at this point and I believe someone in Directv knows the answer.

So wants the answer, Directv?

I’m already DMing with someone for a solution except they want me to pay a $100 for a service call. I believe the solution is right in front of our eyes and can be solved on this forum. I’ve given you enough information and if you need more, ask.
