Channels cut in/out- cable issue?

When our directv was installed, the installer left cords running around our apartment. Not sure if this is standard or not but it is very irritating. Our dish is located on our balcony and he ran cords in through the door. However the channels cut out whenever you open/close the door. Is there anything that can be done to resolve this?

When was your installation?  If it was within the past 90-days you can still get a free service visit to fix the problem.  Ideally the satellite cable should NOT run through a door like that. Did you have your landlord's permission for the installer to drill a hole through the wall?

Unfortunately it was just a little over 90 days ago. We also do not have permission to drill a hole through the wall. Our apartment has coaxial jacks in every room; do you know if it is possible for service to run through those? The problem has now worsened to the point where it says it can't get satellite signal.

The only way that the satellite installer can use the existing coax jacks is if they  have access to the wiring closet where they run.  Typically those are controlled by your local Cable TV company.  You would need to check with your landlord.  Obviously you  need a better way to run that cable than through your door.

Yeah we definitely do need something better. I know some people in other apartments have theirs run through a window, though I'm not sure how that works. Again the dilemma there is that the bedroom is far away from the living room and we will have cords running throughout the apartment. Though since we have that already maybe it wouldn't be so bad. I'll check with the landlord but given that it is Time Warner that does cable around here I would not be at all surprised if they controlled the wiring closet. Thank you for your help!
