confused about add'l tv

I just tried to connect an add'l  house TV to Directv and experiencing a problem.   The coax from the sat. receiver goes to a 4 way splitter.  At the splitter, one coax goes to the office TV.  No problem.   Another coax goes to the kitchen TV, and no problem.   The new coax from that splitter goes to the workout room.  I put a TV on it and it would be fine for a minute or two but with some audio static.   After that minute or two the signal would quickly degrade until all the screen had was snow.     I tried a different TV w/same result.   I replaced the 6 ft. coax from the splitter to TV w/same result.  I replaced the old 4 way splitter with a new one w/same result.   I tried a different power circuit w/same result.    Both of the other TVs off that splitter continued to work fine.    What's the problem?

your post is very confusing.  only newer system using SWM can use splitters.   and you need DirecTV receiver in order to get any programming on a TV.  You cannot just connect the cable from the dish to a TV and expect to get DirecTV. so lets start with the basics

what type of dish do you have?

what is the model of receiver?

any markings, model numbers, of the "splitter"?

OK....back to basics....The following config has been working fine for 9 years:    DirecTV KTI dish cabled to a Philips DSX-5350R receiver in our home theatre.    Three RCA cables from the receiver  to to the video input switch/amplifier (located in the same stack) for surround sound in the theatre.    The coax output from the receiver goes to a 2-way splitter.  One output from there goes to the bedroom and the other goes downstairs.    Downstairs, there has been a 4-way splitter where 1. goes to the office, 2. goes to the kitchen, and 3 goes to the workout room.  All that worked fine.      We disconnected the workout room about 3 years ago because we didn't have a decent TV for that spot.      We recently got a new TV for the theatre and moved the 32" Sony TV from there to the workout room,    When I attached that TV (using channel 3, of course) to the splitter downstairs, it started out working fine, soon degraded to have some audio static and in a matter of 3 or 4 minutes the video signal degraded to snow.      I tried a different TV there--same result.   I replaced the 6 ft.  coax from that TV to the splitter--same problem.   I replaced the 4-way splitter--same problem.   The other TVs attached to that splitter (in the office and kitchen) continued to work just fine.   I don't know why that workout room tv won't work.

is the cable to the work out room the longest?  my thinking is that you have too much loss out of the splitters.  the output from the receivers are made to support one TV.  so the signal is not that strong to begin with.  add splitters and long cable runs and you get what you describe.  why not just get an additional receiver to that room or rooms.  DirecTV might offer you a sweet deal if you upgrade to HD for your theater and move the theater's receiver to the work out room
