In most cases you should connect it to the TV so all inputs are sent to it.  What is the model number of the DTV receiver?

You'll need to find a suitable audio output to connect to your Bluetooth transmitter. Does the Soundbar have any audio OUTs?  How about the TV?

Post back with brand/model numbers of the soundbar, Bluetooth transmitter, and TV. Your HR44 does have analog audio outputs (red/white RCA jack) that might work with your Bluetooth headphone transmitter.

I did a bit of research. Your Sony TV has an optical audio output. Try connecting that to the MEE transmitter's optical audio input. See if that works.

See also the connection video on the MEE transmitter's website ....

The HR44 has red/white RCA audio output jacks for stereo if that Bluetooth transmitter has RCA inputs but it will only work when using the HR44.

When using it connected to the HR44 both the TV speakers and the headphones work.

So you can't hear the DirecTV box when the TV is set for the DirecTV INPUT?  Then it's likely that the HR44 is sending Dolby Digital 5.1 audio instead of 2-channel PCM stereo audio. Many of these Bluetooth devices cannot process Dolby Digital audio. If you only care about the HR44, try connecting to the HR44's analog audio (red/white RCA connector) or optical audio output.  Like I said previously, this process can be challenging.

I’m so totally confused. I have Sony smart tv, Sonos sound bar, mee transmitter, direct tv. I can use Bluetooth headphones with smart tv. Can’t use with direct tv. I can disconnect sound bar from tv and hear direct tv and smart tv but then not using sound bar. I guess I want it all😩

DTV doesn't use Bluetooth so the only way to use Bluetooth head phones is with the Bluetooth transmitter connected to it.

As to why your soundbar doesn't work with DTV is another problem to work on.

Like I said, it's not very easy. Maybe you can find a tech-savvy young person to help you get it working? Good luck!
