Connect Whole House HD-DVR to Wireless Router WITH Security Working

I have the Whole House HD-DVR with one [Model: HR24/100] and one DVR [Model: H16/500]. This upgrade was done with a competent DirecTv installer, but he didn’t have the answer to this problem. He did leave the installation with everything working.

I also have a Linksys WRT45G Version 6; wired/wireless router which is connected to Cablevision of Long Island, NY through a cable modem. Along with wired components (PC, printers and the like); I also have added wireless components to my network (laptop, DVD player and the like). Because of this, I incorporated wireless security on the router; [meaning using the Security Mode: set for “WPA2 Personal” and the Wireless MAC filter: set for “only these PC’s MAC address (es) Allowed”].

After the DirecTv installer left, I tried to “incorporate” my wireless security and found that I am unable to get DirecTV Cinema “On Demand” to work through my wireless router.

I keep getting and Error: 86-333 and a Message: “Security Key Not Accepted. Please Enter a Valid Security Key”. So I had to disablethe Security Mode and the Wireless MAC filter. When I turn my wireless security off; the Networks work perfectly together.

So, I’m afraid that while I can get On Demand I will have to leave my wireless security “open” or I have to hardwire my HD-DVR receiver to the internet.

The R16 SD DVR is not compatible with Whole Home DVR networking.  Do you have other HD Receivers/DVRs?  If not, you don't have sufficient equipment for Whole Home DVR sharing.

How are you trying to connect your HR24 to your home network?

As I understand it; the [Model: HR24/100] in Living room is connected by Ethernet cable to the DirecTV [Model: DCAW1R0-1] which is connected by coax to the Power Inserter [Model: P12R1-03] which is connected by coax to the [SWM Box: MSPLIT8R1-03] which is connected by coax to the DirecTv [Model: H16/500] on 2ndfloor.

I believe that my Home Network connects through the DirecTV [Model: DCAW1R0-1] wireless to my Linksys WRT45G Version 6 which is about 20’ to 25’ away.

No, but it is 24 characters long; a combination of upper and lower case letters and numbers.

unless you are trying to protect Fort Knox, MAC address filtering is an over kill.  a simple password on a protected wireless network should do the trick.

Understood, please remember that wireless didn't work with any security applied (neither Security Mode nor MAC filtering), but thank you for that advice anyway, and I did found the problem.

It seems that the DirecTV [Model: DCAW1R0-1] which works wireless also has an MAC address. WHICH IS DIFFERENT FOUND THE ONE PRESENTED ON THE TV SCREEN DURING INSTALLATION! Once I added it, everything worked perfectly.

While I think “On Demand” could work faster, my Wife and I are very happy.

Thank you for all your help, it was greatly appreciated. I wish you much success with this site.

Take care, so long.

PS

What I have is all that I have, so it is precious to me.

all networkable devices MUST have a MAC address.  Is part of the protocol.  That is why I suggested to remove the MAC address filtering in your router.  But glad you found a solution.  Enjoy!
